Hello to you today!
I hope that today is one of your good days and that even if it isn’t, you’re making it through the best that you can. I’m sure you are. I’ve been sick with who-knows-what (strep? the flu? a cold that just won’t let go?) for almost a week now and let me tell you, it’s cramping my style. Alas, if you know me, you know that I won’t let much get in the way of doing what I want to do, so we forge on for Illuminate Week 2.
It’s funny saying that because sometimes the little things still get to you (and I never thought that would happen after experiencing such a huge loss). It can feel like a slap in the face that life goes on, but alas, it does.
I’m not as fond of these pictures as I was of the ones from week 1, but I did learn something: I don’t pay attention to light and the way it affects how we perceive things. This was a good exercise for me for that reason alone.
We were instructed to choose an object that represents us or our baby loss journey. I couldn’t decide and really want to spend some time with this so I chose to use both a plant (represents renewed growth) and Serenity’s urn.
Here are my photos:
The photo on the left is taken with window lighting from both sides. It’s not super bright, but it’s definitely evenly lit. And it actually looks pretty boring to me.
The photo on the right is taken with window lighting as well, but just from one side. It sort of gives parts of the plant this dark and mysterious vibe…like it’s something out of a fairy-tale. This is the photo that taught me to see the difference that lighting can make in a photo (and helped me understand why my photos are not generally awesome).
The photo on the left was taken with window lighting as well, but this time with the window/light to the right of the object. The one on the right had more direct lighting (even though it still only came from one side). I think I prefer the one on the left. Oddly enough, I don’t see much of a difference between the two – do you? Maybe I should have looked for greater contrast, or maybe it’s because Serenity’s urn is reflective. I’m not sure.
I was going to share my journal entry for this week here as well, but I think it’s better saved for another day. Ooooh. Suspense. It will be coming your way though, promise. And I’m already working on week 3 goodies (and really enjoying it).
If you want to join me on this challenge, go sign up! It’s free and healing.
Much love to you!
